Our house constantly looks like we have a toddler living here. At any given time there's no less than a half dozen stuffed animals strewn through the house. In all our years we have never witnessed a grown dog of any size, let alone a 3 1/2 yr shepherd, enjoy squeaky stuffed toys.
Zoey is like a kid at Christmas everytime she gets a new one. She gets all excited as she takes it from your hand and you can see the delight on her face when she bites into it to make it squeak! She will strut through the house until she has totally exhausted herself. She will squeak her new toy and show it to anyone that is near. (including the cat!) I can't tell you how many times we've been on the phone & she starts playing/squeaking her toys, to the point that we have to go into another room to hear. Our regular callers get quite a chuckle from this.
It is also not uncommon to find her laying on her bed resting her head on one or perhaps having a protective paw on it. Just like a kid. We have never 'invested' very much money into expensive dog toys before because they would get destroyed within minutes with previous dogs. Not so with Zoey! All things considered, it's very cheap entertainment for us to get her a new $10 squeaky stuffed animal!
